Marialexa Kavanaugh is an award-winning podcast producer, writer, reporter and storyteller based in Brooklyn, NY.

She got her start in journalism at Southern California Public Radio, working on the daily Arts and Culture show The Frame. She then went on to pursue a graduate degree in longform reporting at NYU, where she worked on several human-interest pieces about the day to day lives and jobs of less-visible New Yorkers- from abortion doulas and taxidermists to urban archeologists and niche therapists- to name a few.

She spent four years producing both narrative originals and branded partner shows at Pineapple Street Studios. During this time, she worked on critically acclaimed podcasts like 9/12, Will Be Wild, The Wonder of Stevie, and Hystericalwhich was named a Pulitzer Finalist, Apple’s Podcast of the Year and Best Podcast at the Ambies. She also led production on the second season of Flamingo’s Unruly, which transitioned from audio-only to video under her leadership.

Marialexa has also written for LAist, Narratively, Feministing, and Bedford and Bowery. She believes that the most effective way to illuminate a sweeping, systemic issue is by telling small stories, and that we often can’t understand the macro without immersing ourselves in the micro.
